With a goal of Institutional empowerment & infrastructural development for providing diabetic foot care services with adoption of sustainable mechanism for reduction of diabetic foot complication in Orissa towards achievement of Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), K.I.D.S as the technical partner for implementation of Cuttack Diabetes Research Foundation (CDRF) in collaboration with World Diabetes Foundation (WDF) is implementing the ‘Institutional Empowerment for Diabetic Foot-Care’ project in 6 vulnerable districts namely Cuttack, Khurda, Jagatsinghpur, Sambalpur, Keonjhor, & Ganjam from 3 administrative zones East, West and South respectively.

The integrated approach of the program is aimed towards techno upgradation of existing infrastructure, train & empowers the present institution (doctors, nurses, Asha & Anganwadi workers) for providing appropriate techno-clinical counseling on diabetes foot care services. The program is embodied with creating awareness; educate the targeted populace on diabetes foot complicacies prevention & care and facilitation of mobile clinic for the treatment of the people with diabetic foot problems at inaccessible areas of the proposed districts. As a strategic objective, the program advocates for appropriate policy changes to cater the need of people with diabetes and extend its action towards the sustainability of the approach and efforts.

The primary target groups of the program are the people with diabetic foot problem, people with diabetes, general public, Asha & Angawadi workers at villages, nurses & doctors at district level hospitals. And the secondary target groups of the program are health associations, podiatrists, Non Governmental Organization (NGO)s, and govt. department.

The envisioned result of the program will be embodied in establishing six district level diabetic detection cum diabetic foot care centers and one mobile foot care unit for selected six districts of Orissa. The focus of the program is to empower and enable doctors, nurses, Angawanwadi & Asha workers in the target areas to provide appropriate clinical & counseling services to the people with diabetic foot problem & people with diabetes.
